Flying Eagle Cent Mintage

The Flying Eagle Cent has the honor of being one of the shortest production coins. The first of the small sized one cent coins was minted by the U. S. Mint for only 1957 and 1958. The 1856 Flying Eagle was not issued for circulation and was struck only as a pattern with 2,000 proof coins produced for collectors. Composed of 88% copper and 12% nickel the Flying Eagle obverse shows and Eagle in flight, facing left, with the words "United States Of American" arching over the Eagle. The reverse carries a wreath consisting of corn, wheat, cotton, and tobacco encircling the words "ONE CENT."

While it may have had a short production run the Flying Eagle Cent has a number of varieties associated with it and is a very collectible coin.
