Designed for the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's birthday, the Lincoln Memorial penny featuring the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse was not initially well accepted by the public. Most were familiar and comfortable with the previous wheat motif and simply didn't want the change. But change it has and it has been accepted by the public at large.
