The Lincoln Wheat Cent came from the mint on the 100th birthday of Abraham Lincoln. Billions of these pennies were minted from 1909 through 1958 and are generally available at very reasonable prices to collectors, even those of modest means. The Lincoln Wheat Cent is also the first U.S. coin with the likeness of a real person, in this case one of the most respected Presidents of the U.S. Abraham Lincoln. And that is probably one of the most appealing things to young collectors. Beyond that there are several known varieties of the Lincoln Wheat Cent, including the the famous 1943 Steel cent.
